Hi Groupfinity Nation
My name is Anthony Wilson and I am the founder and host of the Groupfinity Podcast where I interview leaders of small volunteer organizations and people who support their efforts to help them succeed.
Groupfinity is here to help you engage and inspire your members, giving you the tools you need to execute your mission, support your members, and benefit the communities you serve. It is a place to solve real problems for real people.
If you are tired of being the 20% who does 80% of the work, you are in the right place. My goal is to bring inspiration and proven strategies that you can apply in your own groups.
This podcast is for chapters of larger organizations, a parent group for a school or a youth sports team, a ministry or church or faith-based group, a veteran group, an alumni club for a college or university. If the words club, group, association, chapter, or ministry appear in your organization’s name, I am here to serve you.
Why I do this?
I have served on a number of boards of small volunteer organizations over the last 15+ years. I currently serve on the board of the Catholic K-8 school my youngest 2 boys attend, our local baseball little league, an AAU (youth) basketball program, a youth travel baseball team, an annual family summer camp for about 50 families, and a non-profit that mentors high school-aged boys to be the first in their family to attend college.
My professional experience has mostly been in financial services. I worked as a CPA for 5 years after graduating from college. I then earned a MBA and worked 15 years in Investment and Commerical Banking and another 5 years for a start-up. These experiences gave me a front-row seat to a number of large and small companies, non-profits, and philanthropists. I bring many of those principles here.
A common problem for small volunteer organizations is that serving in leadership is more time consuming than it should be. The few do the work of the many – 20% of the members do 80% of the work. Leaders burn out and recruiting successors is difficult and many members lack the confidence to serve in leadership.
Training, support, and continuous learning are non-existent or not sufficient.
I found that many of the existing resources were targeted to non-profits with full-time paid staff. “Weekend Warriors”, those who volunteer in their spare time, however, have different challenges and needs. This website is a resource for those volunteers who who need quick actionable and proven ideas
